Home Decor Themes Tip and Ideas

Christmas Decorating For Kids

When you're busy getting the house ready and decorating for Christmas be sure to let the kids do some Christmas decorating of their own.  There are plenty of things they can do to add to the theme and feel like they really are a part of the holiday preparation.

Kids Can Help With Christmas Decorating

Kids are so happy to make their own Christmas decorations for the home and to display them proudly.

Here are some Christmas Decorating ideas for kids:

Decorate curtains, drapes and lamps with ribbons and bows.  Match differented colored bows and ribbons to the theme and colors in your home.  For example, add red and green bows that you can stick to any surface to white curtains, and arrange the bows in any way you wish.

Kid will have fun decorating the drapes using differed sized doilies to fill the drapes with snowflakes, this will work best on dark drapes.  Red or green garland can be attached to the bottom of the drapes and then hang some small light-colored ornaments to the garland.

Let the kids decorate the entertainment center with candles of all colors, Christmas figurines, Christmas balls and little glass bowls.  Weather the entertainment center is wood, white or black, this is a great way to make it a center of the Christmas display.

What about your coffee table?  If the table is glass, let the kids decorate the edge with garland and ornaments.  Choose a garland that compliments the colors of your Christmas theme and the room.  Use tape to attach the garland to the table, kids can do this part.  Start taping the garland on at one corner of the table and let it drop a bit so it hangs from the table and then tape again, keep repeating this process.  Kids can also hang their favorite ornaments on the garland.  This creates a great looking effect and you can use the same idea on banisters, railings and your mantel as well.

Christmas artwork can be made with paints, crayons or markers.  Buy some nice frames to display the art that compliment your decor and theme and it will look like you paid to have such nice art in your home.

An all time Christmas favorite with kids and adults alike is of course the gingerbread house.  Creating a gingerbread house with your children is fun and really lets them get involved.  It will look perfect on display on your countertop or in the middle of the coffee table.

It's easy to find ideas for kids to add to the Christmas decorating but it may be a bit of a challenge to have it match the home decor you have chosen.  You choose the decorations and colors to match your home and let your kids turn on their imaginations to turn your home into a holiday wonderland.
